CROWDS of toddlers brought their teddy bears for a picnic to celebrate a serious cause at Blackbutt yesterday.

Bringing their own picnic food and rugs, the toddlers and their carers took part in the annual event to mark National Protection Week.

Organiser Tessa Parsons said happy parenting provided the best child protection, and this meant understanding that children were different and did not all respond to the same approach.

"Sometimes there is too much pressure about the 'right way to parent' - what's important is appreciating that all children are different," she said.

The event was organised jointly by Shellharbour City Council and the Department of Community Services.
